Updated: Sep 16, 2022

[INCOMING COMMUNIQUE]
Hello Imber,
That's right it's Friday and you know what that means, welcome back to another issue of This Week at Funny Fintan, an intergalactic broadcast on the progress of Incolatus. This week at Funny Fintan, we dive further into Xyzanthynum...
Hitchhiker's Guide to Xyzanthynum Part IV: The Mines
As we continue on our journey through Incolatus' E1M1, enter 'The Mines.' First appearing in the 2021 demo, this arena has evolved a lot this year. A base of operations for the Tigris Nix mining operation, 'the mines' are the beginnings of a corporate effort to harvest the native Xyth crystals of Xyanthynum.
2021

2021 saw us beginning with this photobash by Saturn visualising the proposed idea of an underground Xyth cave/mine. It's a very nice image but wouldn't be realised fully for quite some time.

The mine in the 2021 demo ended up being relegated to a small outdoor area known as 'the quarry,' as there wasn't enough time left to properly create a new indoor space. Above it is pictured in the blocckout phase.

This design ended up being too small and cramped for the fast-paced movement of Incolatus, but we thought it looked good!

2022
BAM! Imber shoots out of the mine site chased by a drill in concept art from earlier this year. This was a bit ambitious given the timeframe we had but maybe one day!

This year's blockout first brought back the concept of the underground cave, and turned it into a parkour section!

In the blockout phase, the quarry fight still existed, but art direction was sparse on this section, so what exactly was meant to be going on here was never figured out.

BAM! Again! Here's the final version of the mines in the 2022 demo...

Now with huge Andromeda Snails to jump on!

It's rumoured that these snails were not native to our dimension, but were refugees displaced in the collapse of the great system millions of years ago...

The outside 'quarry' section was eventually transformed into an extension of the cave parkour.

A view from the hedge maze...

Stay tuned next week for a closer look at: The Maze! This was one of my favourite sections to put together, though it was a bit buggy at Pixel expo... There's always next time!
INCOLATUS @ XR:WA, Pt. II

Incolatus will be returning to XR:WA in 2022! Coming up on September 17, next Saturday, for one day only, we'll be back on the show floor in Hackett Hall at the Boola Bardip museum.
